BREVARD COUNTY • FLORIDA — March 29 will mark a day of both spirited youth competition and solemn national remembrance, with two major events taking place that highlight the depth of service, sacrifice, and patriotism within our community.

JROTC District Championship Drill Meet at Veteran’s Memorial Center Park

Kicking off the day, the JROTC District Championship Drill Meet will be held at Veterans Memorial Center Park, 400 South Sykes Creek Parkway, Merritt Island, from 7 a.m. – 1 p.m. This highly anticipated event will bring together Junior ROTC teams from across the region to compete in precision drill and ceremony, a true test of discipline, teamwork, and military bearing.

As a State Championship Qualifier, this meet serves as a critical stepping stone for cadets hoping to advance and represent their schools at the highest level of state competition. The event is open to the public and serves as a proud showcase of the next generation of leaders trained in the values of honor, courage, and commitment.

Vietnam Welcome Home Ceremony at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery

Later in the morning, from 10 – 11 a.m., the Annual and Final Vietnam Welcome Home Ceremony will be held at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery.

This special program will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the American withdrawal from Vietnam in 1975, paying tribute to the service and sacrifice of all who served during the Vietnam War.

Held in solemn recognition of National Vietnam War Veterans Day, this ceremony marks the final official commemoration under the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and federal initiatives that began decades after our troops returned home to a divided America. It will be a moment of reflection, closure, and gratitude for a generation of veterans who often went unrecognized upon their return.
